Teams are allowed to get private/external support as well, but only at the checkpoints.

These are located in schools, community houses, mountain- and tourist cabins in Northern Troms and Finnmark. There, the riders gets food, a bit of rest, and technical support. Except for three mandatory stops, it is up to the riders themselves to choose for how long they want to stay at each checkpoint. They are allowed to eat or rest anywhere on the trail, but may receive external support only at the checkpoints. The cyclists are equipped with GPS-emitters which makes it possible to track their progress. Their position and ranking can be followed on the offroadfinnmark website.

All riders need to carry a supply of mandatory equipment with them throughout the entire race, in order to help them in case the unexpected happens.
