Stage Race - of5d

In summer 2012 we shall be arranging the first 5 day offroadfinnmark stage race (of5d). We are hoping for large numbers of participants, at both elite and amateur level. There will be solo classes.

of5d stages

We can promise excellent cross-country cycling and extremely spectacular scenery. The first stage (prologue) is a technical hill climb, where the winning time will be about 50 minutes. The subsequent stages will have winning times of approx. 4, 5, 3 and 6 hours respectively (estimated stage times are the calculated performance of a leading national cyclist) The first four stages will be run as mass starts. The final stage of 6 hours will be run as a pursuit start for the top 30 riders, with the first rider over the line as winner.

Registration

Race registration opens on Thursday 13 October. The maximum number of riders in of5d 2012 will be 150, so it is important to register early as the event may sell out.

Route description

The route will traverse wide areas of Vest-Finnmark, and the race will be dominated by relatively technical cycling in a fantastic wilderness area. The optimum choice of cycle will be full suspension travel or 29". of5d can be cycled with carbon soles, i.e. there will be a minimum of walking.

Accommodation

There will be mattress accommodation at the school in Alta, at the lavvu tent camp in Masi and the sports hall in Kautokeino. All checkpoints will have indoor refreshments, showers and toilets. Upgrades to hotel, cabin etc. are available if wished.

Evenings can be spent socially with the other cyclists in the public areas. We shall also be setting up big screens so cyclists can follow progress in the simultaneously held of300 and of700.

Banquet

We shall be arranging a grand banquet at Hotell Rica on Wednesday 25 July, which will start with the award ceremony. The banquet is included in the starting fee.
